<p>PURPOSE:To prevent damage to a wedge by changing operation from a means for driving the rotary shaft of a generator to a means for supplying power to the armature winding of the generator when the rotational speed of the generator exceeds its rated value by a specified amount. CONSTITUTION:To start a turbine generator 1 from a rotational speed of zero, a starter 5 is driven with a switch S2 open. When the turbine generator 1 has been started, its rotational speed is detected using a speed detector 9. When detected speed reaches 4-5% of the rated rotational speed of the turbine generator 1, a power inverter 34 is started according to a rotational speed signal from a thyristor start judging unit 60. Further, the switch S2 is closed to pass an alternating current through the armature winding of the turbine generator 1, and the operation of the starter 5 is switched to that of a thyristor starter 7. This prevents damage to the wedge of the rotor due to arcing, and shortens the starting time.</p> |
