Removable gear-changing lever in a motor vehicle for preventing motor vehicle theft for both manual and automatic transmissions

Theft protection for vehicles having manual and automatic transmissions is brought about by means of a removable gear-changing (gear shift) lever. The connecting point between the gear-changing lever and transmission can be provided using electrical contacts which block the engine electronics (lock against driving away) if the original gear-changing lever is not present.
