<p>PURPOSE:To reduce the circuit scale of a correcting circuit for the occurrence of an uncorrectable error in a video signal encoded to a variable length code after orthogonal transformation. CONSTITUTION:If an uncorrectable error occurs in a recorder/reproducer 1, an error corrector 2 supplies error position information EN of this error to an error code inserter 3. The error code inserter 3 substitutes the DC signal (9 bits) of the DCT block, where the error exists, with '-256', which is not normally generated, and substitutes the first variable length code word following the DC signal with a block end code. A correcting part 9 detects sample value '-128', which is not normally generated, in the output signal (8 bits) of an inverse orthogonal transformer 6 and performs correction for this sample value.</p> |
