The heater includes a soapstone casing (1) containing a core (5) arranged on an isolating plate (9) and standing on a concrete base, the casing having 3 to 10 times the mass of the core. The core has electrical resistance heating elements (7), specified according to the size and weight of the heater and contained in vertical spaces (8) large enough to accommodate expansion due to heating. Between the core and the casing is a closed isolating space (6) of about 30 to 50 mm wide, containing air, which is not circulated outside the heater. Isolating material such as mineral wool (10) is inserted at the top end of the isolating space (6) to ensure safe temperatures on the heater lid, and a thermostat (11) is used to limit the maximum casing temperature to 80 deg.
