PURPOSE:To improve the character reproducibility in a generation copy by setting a gradation correction curve in character reproduction in a hard tone and setting a maximum output value lower than a maximum output value of the gradation correction curve in the reproduction of a picture other than characters so as to reduce thicked characters in the reproduction of characters. CONSTITUTION:A gradation correction LUT 23 stores a gradation correction curve for character reproduction and a gradation correction curve to reproduce data other than the character and the curve is selected for each picture element by a code signal. As the character use gradation correction curve, a curve C1 in which a maximum value of correction density is lower than a maximum value of other use correction and other gradation correction curve C2 are used. When the gradation correction curves C1,C2 are mounted on a copying machine to execute copying, then the density is slightly lower as to thin lines but lateral widening is prevented and then quality of characters is improved. |
