The invention relates to a method and an arrangement for reducing the error rate when scanning information stored on optical recording media in disc form by playback or reproduction equipment, such as for example CD or MOD players. It is the object of the invention to ensure a low error rate even in the limiting range of tolerances of the player and with a number of types of error of the recording medium. According to the invention, the error rate is reduced by at least one offset voltage (U1, U2), dependent on the position of the location of an error of the recording medium with respect to the resulting disc runout (wobble). In the focusing control loop, an upper offset voltage (U1) and a lower offset voltage (U2) are used for setting the operating point in dependence on the position of the location of an error of the recording medium (CD) with respect to the resulting disc runout. The determining of the offset voltages (U1, U2) can be carried out in an automated manner by a microprocessor, and control signals (UO, UU) for applying the offset voltages (U1, U2) are generated by a logic circuit.
