PURPOSE:To provide a production method capable of producing high-purity terephthalic acid excellent in hue. CONSTITUTION:The characteristic of this method for production of high-purity terephthalic acid is to carry out by oxidizing p-xylene, bring hydrogen into contact with the resultant aqueous slurry of crude terephthalic acid at <=200 deg.C in advance and then heat it in the presence of a VIII group metal catalyst at 220 to 320 deg.C for hydrogenation reduction.
