Water heater in which the water to be heated can be heated up and stored in a plastic water tank (1) fitted with connection pieces (4, 5) for the water supply and the hot-water discharge. The water tank (1) is provided with a closable opening (8) for the introduction of an electric tubular heating element constructional unit (21, 22). In order to make the water tank (1) more easily accessible, the opening (8) is provided at that end face (7) of the water tank (1) which is situated opposite the connection pieces (4, 5) and is leaktightly closed by a cover (11) capable of being screwed in. The cover (11) has a centring means (13) for a water-supply and water-discharge pipe (15) which is mounted at the other end face (6) and passes through the water tank (1). The tubular heating element constructional unit (21, 22) is fixed in the aforementioned end face (6). <IMAGE>
