The invention relates to the use of natural fibres for the design of building facades and surfaces of supporting structures. The use of organic fibre materials as surface cladding is gaining increasing importance in ecologically oriented building. According to the invention, animal wool, especially sheep's wool, in an appropriately processed form is used as a raw material for the permanent heat-insulating and sound-proofing cladding and design of surfaces of supporting structures and building facades and for binding harmful substances in regions particularly at risk. Pretreated fleece layers consisting of sheep's wool are needled to form felt. The felt thus obtained and consisting of pure sheep's wool is made into the desired element shapes and can already be used in this state for the permanent heat-insulating and sound-proofing exterior cladding and design of surfaces of supporting structures and building facades and for binding harmful substances.
