Production of compound optical components

In the production of a compound optical component, in particular a multi-focal lens, a first lens element (16) is positioned on a concave abutment surface (14) of a jig support member (12), which is transparent to ultra-violet (UV) radiation, and a second element (20) is next accurately placed over the first element between which a layer of UV-curable adhesive (18) has been applied. A pump (32) then applies air under pressure using membrane (28) to squeeze the elements against the member (12), while a UV lamp (24) irradiates the elements to cure the adhesive.
