The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for welding a port into plastic bags made of films. It is proposed to form into the pressure-exerting surfaces of the welding mould air ducts which correspond to the path and the width of the welds to be made and which are open towards the weld in such a way that, after the closing of the mould, their open sides are bounded by the films to be welded onto the stub of the port, hot air for the welding operation and cold air for the subsequent cooling of the welds being alternately passed through the air ducts.
