PURPOSE: To provide a method and a system for controlling simultaneous access to an object which is made into a version by means of plural users in a distributed data processing environment. CONSTITUTION: Write locking for the first part of a data set to which the user desires access is searched. When the write locking is not detected, a request is permitted by permitting write access to the first part. When write locking is set, the other user inhibits the change, but, the read access by the other user to the first part is permitted. When the second user desires the access to the data set to a second part and the second part has the first part, several common elements and elements which are not shared, the request of the second user is partially permitted for a part of the second part, which is not shared with the first part.
