PURPOSE:To obtain a polarization multiplexing wavelength multiplexing coupler, and a bidirectional pumping optical direct amplifier of double structure employing the coupler, which is miniaturized by decreasing the number of the couplers employed in the constitution of the optical direct amplifier. CONSTITUTION:The inventive coupler comprises a first means 21 for polarizing/ multiplexing first and second pumping lights L1, L2, a second means 22 for polarizing and multiplexing third and fourth lights L3, L4, a first means 41 for multiplexing the wavelengths of a pumping light from the means 21 and a signal light LS, a second means 42 for multiplexing the wavelengths of a pumping light from the means 22 and the signal light, and first and second ports 51, 52 for outputting the pumping lights from the first and second wavelength multiplexing means 41, 42. The signal light LS enters through the first port 51 and reflects on the means 41. It is then multiplexed with the pumping light by the means 42 and outputted through the second port 52. |
