The apparatus is borne by a chassis (3) and comprises an elevator (4) in the form of a gib consisting of at least one element (7). One of the ends of the elevator bears a gondola (12) and the other is articulated to a turret (5) mounted so that it can pivot on an orientation ring connected to the chassis (3). The apparatus further includes a hydraulic control circuit comprising hydraulic rams controlling the manoeuvring and orientation of the elevator (4). The orientation ring is connected to the chassis (3) via auxiliary elevator means (16, 18, 22) allowing the turret (5) to be raised together with all the elements borne by it. <IMAGE>
