A benzylhydrazone derivative represented by the general formula (I): (I) <IMG> ¢wherein X is CH~OR5 or N~OR5 (wherein R5 is a C1-6alkyl group), Y is a C1-6alkoxy group, a C1-6alkylthio group, an unsubstituted amino group, or a mono- or disubstituted amino group having as the substituent(s) one or two C1-6alkyl groups, each of Z's is a halogen atom, a C1-6alkyl group or a halo-C1-6alkyl groups, m is zero or an integer of 1 to 4, R1 is a hydrogen atom, a C1-6alkyl group or a halo-C1-6alkyl group, each of R2, R3 and R4 is a specific group! which is very effective against rice blast, cucumber downy mildew, barley powdery mildew, etc. at a low dosage; a process for producing said derivative; and an agricultural and horticultural fungicide containing said derivative as an active ingredient.
