METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR JOINING WEBS OF MATERIAL

Methods and apparatus for joining webs of elasticated material, e.g. to form a ring for a garment waistband. The web (34 is formed into a U-shaped loop, and its ends (42) are welded together in a transverse weld substantially entirely across the web by an ultrasonic welding horn (I). The elastic threads are firmly gripped in the weld, and are prevented from running longitudinally in time. Such transverse welds can also be used in attaching buckles to elasticated webs.
