Double stroke cylinder

A double stroke cylinder for a punching/riveting machine has a cylinder housing 6 in which a prestroke piston 7 is arranged in a displaceable manner. The prestroke piston 7 is designed as a hollow cylinder and accommodates a working piston 10 which is driven by the prestroke piston 7 and is displaceable relative to the prestroke piston for performing its working stroke. The working piston 10, with a cylindrical body 15 connected to the cylinder housing 6 and projecting into the prestroke cylinder, defines a working chamber 19 to which a pressure medium is admitted for performing the working stroke. By the admission of pressure to the prestroke 7 and the working piston 10 independently of one another and by the support of the pressure producing the working stroke on the cylindrical body 15, high working pressures can be realised without a reaction on the prestroke piston 7.
