A safety cell for banks, department stores and the like, with side walls (1.5, 1.6), a roof (2) and an entry/exit aperture (3) which can be closed by means of a swing door (5). The swing door (5) is opened and closed by means of an electromechanical control device arranged on the roof (2). The control device possesses a displaceable control plate (9) which is coupled mechanically to each door leaf (5). In a first position of readiness in which the door is opened, the control plate (9) is under the effect of a compression spring and is retained in this position by a locking device releasible from outside. When the lock is released, the door (5) closes at high speed. To open the door, there is an electromotive spindle drive (12 to 15) which, after the control plate (9) has been locked in the position of readiness, can be uncoupled from this. <IMAGE>
