Wire reel for a binding device

A wire reel (3) for holding or carrying a binding wire, which contains, on the outsides of at least one of two frame plates, a cut-out portion (15) consisting of a circumferential-wall portion (14) with its centre on the axis of the reel and of a bottom-wall portion (12). An optical sensor detection mark (17) is provided in the cut-out portion (15) in such a way that the mark (17) is applied excentrically to the axis of the reel. The circumferential-wall portion (14) of the cut-out portion (15) is designed as a rotatable axle portion which is carried rotatably by the reel-carrier portion of the binding device. Since the cut-out portion (15) is covered or screened off completely by the reel-carrier portion of the binding device, the optical sensor detection mark provided in the cut-out portion (15) is completely free of influences of the external environment. The rotation of the wire reel (3) can therefore be recorded exactly, in order thereby to avoid operating errors effectively, even when the atmospheric conditions and/or the place of use of the binding device in the open or inside or the like vary. <IMAGE>
