Transferring of a disabled person from the sling of a slingtype lifting apparatus into a wheelchair is facilitated by raising the front end of the wheelchair, conveniently by means of a ramp structure. The ramp structure orients the wheelchair such that the seat and back of the wheelchair are closely aligned with the underside of the person "seated" in the sling. This reduces the need for attendants to pull the person backwards as the person is lowered into the wheelchair. 21
