The contour correcting apparatus automatically controls the picture contour by using a remote control. In VCR having a pre-amplifier, a luminance signal processor and a color signal processor, the apparatus includes a picture control signal generator for converting the change of a high frequency state into a control signal automatically and manually, and for controlling the contour correction; and a mixer for mixing output signals and for outputting a composite video signal.
