A stent for use in surgery comprising a plurality of interrelating stent portions, each said portions having a generally planar portion integral with a generally curved portion, the stent portions being arranged such that the generally curved portion is aligned along a longitudinal axis and at least one generally planar portion is disposed on one side of the longitudinal axis and at least one generally planar portion is disposed on the other side of the longitudinal axis, planar portions are symmetrical with respect to a plane passing through the longitudinal axis, t he stent is in a sterile condition, the generally curved portion is at least partiall y cylindrical in configuration, and at least one generally curved portion has a longitudin al aperture adapted to receive an elongate stent rod therethrough.
