This device consists of reference numbers placed around the board (playing surface), as ordinates, opposite each row of squares, as abscissae, at the bottom of each column. The references placed at the bottom of each column are repeated (1). This repetition makes it possible, by adding together the value of the reference at the bottom of the column and that opposite the row, to determine the position of a piece on the draughtboard (checkerboard). This device also applies to a draughtboard with 64 squares. <IMAGE>
