Device for protecting passenger cars and utility vehicles against theft with the aid of a code key which permits the user to gain access to, and/or operate, the vehicle only when there is code correspondence between the transmitter (key) and receiver (lock), the ignition 3 only being capable of being switched on with the code key 1 if the vehicle has previously been correctly locked in the usual way (at the locks 5 of the doors) and correctly opened again in the usual way, any possible correspondence of codes being capable of being detected by an integrated electronic evaluation unit 4 by means of code interrogation and comparison.
