摘要 PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of an inverse transformation of data by comparing the authenticators produced by a terminal and transmitted to a center and the authenticators produced by the center that receives the authenticators from the terminal, authenticating the terminal as a correct one when these authenticators are coincident with each other and using cipher algorithm only for authentication purposes and to perform authentication by a small amount of processing employing simple power remainder arithmetic operations. CONSTITUTION:When a terminal 11 transmits a service request to a center 1, the center 1 generates random numbers Ri and transmits them to the terminal 11. The terminal 11, then, generates an authenticator Ai based on secret keys Ki and Mi and secret prime numbers Pi and transmits them to the center 1. The center 1 generates an authenticator Ai' based on the terminal 11's secret keys Ki and Mi and secret prime numbers Pi, compares the authenticators Ai and Ai' and when they coincide with each other, the center 1 allows the terminal 11 to provide the service. When they do not coincide with each other, no service is allowed by the center 1 at the terminal 11. Thus, the authenticators Ai and Ai' are generated with a simple processing and authentication is performed at the terminal 11.
