This method consists: - in cutting up fire-resistant elongate bars or strips (14); - in treating the strips in a ventilated oven according to a specific thermal cycle; - in covering the strips with a layer (16) made of fibres bonded by a self-extinguishing resin; - in draping the bottom of a compacting mould with a stack of layers of fibrous cloth, these being intended to form a lower skin (22) for the structural component; - in putting the foam strips (14) in place on the stack of layers of cloth; - in producing a frame (18) made of compression-resistant and fire-resistant material and in putting it in place around the layer of strips (14); and - in compacting the assembly in a press. <IMAGE>
