METHOD AND AN APPARATUS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HIGHLY ORIENTED AMORPHOUS POLYESTER FILAMENT YARNS

In a process for the production of melt spun highly oriented amorphous polyester filament yarns (2), the shock cooling is effected by means of a rotating cooling surface. In a preferred apparatus, the cooling surface is formed by the contact surface of a cooling roller (3). By variations of the contact time of the filament yarns (2) with the cooling roller (3) or of the distance between the spinneret (1) and the cooling roller (3), filament yarns can be produced with a desired boiling shrinkage of up to 70% with a simultaneous birefringence of > 0.08.
