This invention relates to a process for the production of an alkadienol, comprising the reaction of a conjugated alkadiene and water in the presence of carbon dioxide using a palladium compound and a phosphine compound as a catalyst. This reaction is carried out using a free phosphine compound which is present in the reaction solution.
