A channel-shaped metal core or carrier for a flexible sealing strip has short slots 20A,20B,20C... formed in its side wall A and each aligned with a through slit 22A,22B,22C... . Side wall C is formed with similar short slots 30A,30B,30C... (Fig. 4) and slits 32A,32B,32C... but these are offset in relation to the short slots 20A,20B,20C... of side A. Each short slot 20A,20B,20C... is in alignment with a respective long slot 28A,28B,28C... and each short slot 30A,30B,30C... is in alignment with a respective long slot 26A,26B,26C.... . All the long slots are of similar configuration. Because of the asymetric arrangement of the short and long slots, bending of a flexible strip incorporating the carrier causes a certain amount of strain to develop in the carrier between its opposite side walls, and this gives a desirable degree of semi-rigidity to the carrier. <IMAGE> |
