This device including an isolated support structure (1) in which there is located at least one member (2) for catalytic purification of the gases, the said structure having an intermediate portion (3) for receiving the member and, on either side of this portion, inlet and outlet portions (4, 5) for the gases, is characterised in that the support structure (1) includes an outer casing (8) inside which there is located a layer of ceramic fibres (9) for mounting the catalytic purification member in the intermediate portion of the structure and the ends of which extend over at least some of the inlet and outlet portions for the gases of this structure and are locked in position by means (10, 11) for clamping onto the outer casing (8). <IMAGE>
