2136326 9421337 PCTABS00033 A batting practice device comprising a relatively stiff, elongate tubular member (12) with a handle (14) located on one end and the other end being open and containing in its interior an elongate ball supporting member (18) slidably disposed in a telescopic manner in the interior of the tubular member (12), a ball (28) tightly disposed on the outer end of the ball supporting member (18). The ball supporting member (18) is readily movable between a compacted position in which most of its length is contained in the interior of the tubular member (12), and an extended position in which a relatively small amount of the length remains inside the tubular member. To assure the ball supporting member remaining in the extended position during use, a locking collar (44) is used, which can also be used to retain the ball supporting member in the compacted position. To prevent the ball supporting member from becoming separated during use, a rigid member (60) is extended through the length of the ball supporting member.
