<p>A safety restraint system (10) having a body component (12) including a head opening (18) for insertion over the head of a child and a belt (30) which buckles around the lower rib cage of the child to secure the safety restraint system on the child. The safety restraint system (10) can thus be secured to the child prior to the child entering the vehicle. A first strap member (42) is secured to a lower portion of the body component. This first strap (42) is wrapped over a vehicle lap belt until an engaging member (46) having fabric hook elements engages fabric loop elements on a receiving member (56) affixed to the body component (12). A second strap (60) is affixed to the body component just below the head opening. This strap is folded downward over the vehicle shoulder belt until fabric hook elements engage fabric loop elements on the reverse side of the engaging member (46) on the first strap (42). The second strap (60) positions the shoulder belt away from the head and neck of the child. This provides a safer restraint aswell as a more comfortable situation for the child.</p> |
