A method for producing coloured solid bodies made of the material of ivory nut, in particular coloured buttons, has the following method steps for reasons of environmental protection and for maintaining permanent colouring: the ivory nut is preferably machined using a cutting tool to shape and condition the solid body. Prior to the actual colouring, the solid body is prepared for dyeing. A suitable dye bath, consisting solely of natural colours or natural substances, is then prepared. The solid body is then coloured. Finally, aftertreatment of the coloured solid body can take place.
