PURPOSE:To inexpensively and efficiently obtain a thermoplastic composite material excellent in impregnation properties at a high speed by impregnating a reinforcing fiber with a thermoplastic resin in an impregnation die and pressing and compressing a molten thermoplastic composite material outside the impregnation die. CONSTITUTION:A bundle of reinforcing fibers 4 are passed through an impregnation die 5 to receive the supply of a molten resin 3 to become a molten thermoplastic composite material 6. Next, the impregnated bundle passes through the gaps between two or more sets of compression rollers consisting of cooling drive rollers 8 cooled by cooling water or cooling air 10 and pressure cooling rollers 9 to receive strong compression force and the molten thermoplastic resin flows in the gaps between the monofilaments of the reinforcing fibers to accelerate the impregnation of the bundle. At the same time, the molten thermoplastic composite material is gradually cooled and solidified while it is deformed to the cross-sectional shape along the shapes of the rollers to become a thermoplastic composite material 7 which is, in turn, taken up by a taking-up roller 11. |
