PURPOSE:To simplify the structure by equipping the device with a 1st threading mechanism for drawing out a leader block of a cartridge to a machine reel and a 2nd threading mechanism for moving a guide body CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording and reproducing device is provided with the mechanisms 40 and 50 for making the 1st threading state for drawing out the leader block 7 to the machine reel 6 and the 2nd threading state for wrapping the drawn magnetic tape 2 around a rotary drum 4 independently in separate processes respectively. Consequently, the threading performance is simpler in mechanism and easier in control than performing these individual states by the same mechanism at the same time, and also the cost can be reduced.
