PURPOSE:To obtain a separator for molten carbonate type fuel cell which is provided with edge seal plates having an excellent anticorrosion property and sealing property. CONSTITUTION:Edge seal plates 1 and 8 which consist of a stainless steel provided contacting to the peripheral edge of an electrolyte plate 16 including a carbonate are provided. In this separator for molten carbonate type fuel cell, at least the surface layers of the above edge seal plates 1 and 8 connecting to the peripheral edge of the electrolyte plate 16 are formed of an aluminum diffusion layer with the thickness 35 to 100mum formed by the aluminum slurry method.
