A liquid crystal display contains a pair of transparent substrate layers (1a) which are located opposite each other, a sealing layer (2a) formed like a frame and having an opening, which serves as liquid crystal inlet (4), the sealing layer being spaced between the pair of transparent substrate layers and around their entire periphery, which is spaced with a predetermined spacing from the peripheral edge of the pair of transparent substrate layers, and the pair of transparent substrate layers being bonded to each other by means of the sealing layer in such a way that the latter is held between them at a predetermined spacing. Liquid crystal (8) is sealed between the pair of transparent substrate layers, and a pair of liquid crystal capillary plugs (5a, 5b) are formed in each case between the pair of transparent substrate layers and on both sides of the liquid crystal inlet, so that they are coplanar with the outer edge or are squeezed out therefrom. <IMAGE>
