Apparatus for sealing components with an impregnating compound

A description is given of a process (and an apparatus for carrying out the process) for sealing in each case a plurality of components, such as line transformers, with an impregnating compound which does not set at room temperature but at elevated temperature (for example 60 DEG to 80 DEG C) sets within a short time, for example less than 30 minutes. The process comprises the process steps of introducing a pallet of components into a casting chamber (10) to which a vacuum can be applied, evacuating the casting chamber, sealing the components with the compound under vacuum (48), admitting air into the casting space (48), and moving out the components, preferably placed on a pallet (46), and moving the same into a multichambered oven (60), within which the component is subjected at above-atmospheric pressure to an elevated temperature, at which the impregnating compound sets. To save heating energy and pressure-applying energy, the oven has a lock-prechamber, a main chamber and a lock-postchamber, pressure constantly prevailing in the main chamber, while the lock chambers can be alternately pressurised and vented (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
