With this invention, peak values of a densitogram I, which were obtained by photo-electric scanning of an electrophoretic image of a serum protein, are calculated (11). The obtained peak values are then applied, to form a waveform II (13). Points in the densitogram I, which correspond to minimum points of a peak which were obtained from a specific component on the waveform II, are seen as an initial point P or a final point Q (15). The area S1, which is enclosed by a curved line P - Q and straight lines P - Px, Px - Qx and Q - Qx, is calculated. Then the trapezoidal area S2, which is enclosed by four straight lines P - Q, Q - Qx, Qx - Px and Px - P, is calculated (16). Then the difference DELTA S between the area S1 and the trapezoidal area S2 is calculated (17). A percentage fractional value is obtained (18) from the difference DELTA S.
