PURPOSE:To obtain a modified highly water-absorptive resin inexpensively by an industrially simple manner by treating the surfaces of water-absorptive resin particles with an aqueous solution of a specified compound and a crosslinking agent to crosslinking the particles. CONSTITUTION:Water-absorptive resin particles (A) are treated with an aqueous solution of a water-soluble compound (B) and a crosslinkikng agent (C) to effect crosslinking to obtain resin particles whose surfaces are crosslinked to produce a modified highly water-absorptive resin. Compound B is at least one water-soluble compound selected from among a monohydric alcohol/alkylene oxide adduct, a monosalt of an organic acid and a lactam and being insoluble in resin A and agent C. Crosslinking agent C is one having at least two functional groups reactive with resin A. According to the above process, a highly water-absorptive resin having excellent absorption capacity under elevated or zero-pressure conditions, does not form unwetted agglomerates when brought into contact with water, and has excellent initial absorption rate. |
