A pressure regulating setting device suitable for a motor vehicle brake control system includes a pressure setting cylinder which surrounds a piston in a sliding manner and interacts with the piston, in order to define within itself a pressure chamber of variable volume which is fluidically connected to a wheel brake cylinder, a shut-off valve via which the chamber of variable volume is connected to a main brake cylinder, a motor-driven thrust generator which is connected to the piston in a non-positive manner in order to generate a thrust, and a strongly pre-loaded reset spring which prestresses the piston into a first direction, which is opposed to a second direction into which the piston is thrust by the main brake cylinder pressure enclosed in the chamber, when the piston is displaced from its neutral position into the second direction and thus the volume of the chamber is increased. The preloading of the spring is set in such a way that by means of a force which acts on the piston through a maximum main brake cylinder pressure introduced into the cylinder, an equivalence is produced. In the absence of a thrust acting on the piston after terminating an ABS control, for reducing the pressure, the piston returns rapidly and exactly into its neutral position. A zero thrust ensures a rapid resetting of the piston into the neutral position by means of a slight brake actuation after completing a traction control action for increasing the pressure.
