PRODUCTION OF D-PANTOIC ACID, D-PANTOTHENIC ACID AND SALT THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain D-pantoic acid or its salt without relying on DL-pantoic acid or DL-pantolactone, etc., by culturing a specific microorganism having the resistance to salicylic acid and the ability to synthesize the D-pantoic acid. CONSTITUTION:A microorganism which has the resistance to salicylic acid and the ability to synthesize D-pantoic acid and belongs to the family Enterobacteriacea (preferably the genus Escherichia) is cultured in a culture medium to collect the accumulated D-pantoic acid (salt). When beta-alanine is added to the culture medium to carry out the culturing, D-pantothenic acid is produced.
