A process for water treatment which can be carried out economically, in particular for seawater desalination, by the principle of reverse osmosis in which a high-pressure water stream is fed to an osmosis unit (3) and is separated into unpressurised pure water (13) and a concentrate still at high pressure in comparison to the input pressure, the concentrate being used for energy recovery, provides that a low-pressure water stream, before pressurisation, is divided in a ratio of pure water to concentrate, the first part-water stream corresponding to the pure water portion is brought to system pressure or high pressure and the second part-water stream corresponding to the concentrate portion is passed into a tube chamber feeder (8) in which the low-pressure water stream (second part-stream) exchanges with an influent high-pressure water stream of the concentrate from the osmosis unit (3), the high-pressure water stream is then brought to system pressure and combined with the first part-water stream and is then passed to the osmosis unit (3) which is connected for this purpose to the tube chamber feeder (8) via flow lines (6, 7, 9). <IMAGE>
