A drop seal assembly (40) for a movable wall panel (22), the wall panel (22) being situated in a room having a ceiling and a floor (44) such that the wall panel (22) is supported from the ceiling and is suspended above the floor (44). The drop seal (40) includes a motor (52) and an actuator (56) operatively connected to the motor (52) and movable between a first actuator position and a second actuator position in response to the operation of the motor (52). The drop seal (40) also includes a mechanism such as a compression spring (46), connected to the actuator (56) and a retractable seal (42) connected to the spring (46) such that when the actuator (56) is in its first position, the seal (42) does not engage the floor (44), and when the actuator (56) is in its second position, the seal (42) engages the floor (44), the spring (46) biasing the seal (42) toward the floor (44) to effectively seal the panel (22) against the floor (44).
