CORE-SHELL COPOLYMER DISPERSIONS WHOSE SHELL CONTAINS HYDROLIZABLE SILICIUM-ORGANIC COMONOMERS

Core-shell copolymer dispersions are disclosed whose shell contains hydrolyzable silicium-organic comonomers. The shell consists of a copolymer which contains: (a) 70 to 95 % by weight acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid (C1-C10) alkyl ester, of which 20 to 80 % by weight, in relation to the total weight of (a), have maximum 2 g/l water solubility and 80 to 20 % by weight, in relation to the total weight of (a), have at least 10 g/l water solubility; (b) 5 to 25 % by weight of one or several ethylenically unsaturated functional and water-soluble monomers containing 25 to 100 % by weight unsaturated carboxylic acids, in relation to the total weight of (b); and (c) 0.01 to 10 % by weight one or several olefinically unsaturated, hydrolyzable silicium compounds having the general formula R<1>-Si(OR<2>)3. The core, which accounts for 75 to 98 % by weight of the total weight of the core-shell copolymer, consists of a polymer which contains (d) one or several comonomers from the group of the vinyl esters, acrylic and/or methacrylic acid esters, vinyl chlorides, vinyl-aromatic compounds and ethylene.
