PURPOSE:To extremely easily produce the subject compound useful as a muscle relaxant, etc., from an inexpensive safe raw material in high yield by reacting a 4-substituted propiophenone and a cyclic amine or its salt with 1,3,5-trioxane. CONSTITUTION:A propiophenone derivative of formula III (e.g. 4'-ethyl-2- methyl-3-piperidinopropiophenone) is produced by reacting a 4-substituted propiophenone of formula I (R is lower alkyl) (e.g. 4-ethylpropiophenone) with a cyclic amine of formula II [Z is (CH2)n ((n) is 0 or 1)] or its salt (e.g. piperidine hydrochloride) and 1,3,5-trioxane. The compound of formula III has central muscle relaxing action and analgesic action. An inexpensive raw material free from stimulating smell and carcinogenic danger can be used in the present process. The objective compound of formula III can be produced in an almost stoichiometric high yield. |
