Stepper motor circuit and method of operating a stepper motor

The step size of a two winding stepper motor 10, which may drive a speedometer needle, is adaptively varied by a controller 18 in dependence on the required movement. This variation permits both fine resolution and rapid response. The controller two-level outputs A0 - A2 and A3 - A5 in conjunction with the resistances R1 - R4 provide up to 12 intermediate steps. The controlled outputs A0 - A2 may be high-impedance.
