A ground socket for posts comprises a tube (2), which is anchored in the ground and is intended for receiving a post, a cover (8), which is connected to the tube (2) in a captive manner and is intended for covering the upper open tube end when a post has not been pushed in, and a downwardly directed pocket (6) which is fastened laterally in the tube (2), is open at the upper end and is intended for receiving the cover (8). On the inner surfaces (18) of the pocket (6) and on the cover (8) there are formed corresponding guides (14, 16), such that the cover (8) is connected to the pocket (6) in a captive manner and can be displaced along the guides (14, 16) such that, in one end position, it covers the open tube end and, in another end position, it is received in the pocket (6). <IMAGE>
