In a door closer, a damping piston reciprocates in a tube to damp rotation of a shaft transverse to the tube and connected to a pivoting door. To form bosses to receive the transverse shaft, the tube 19 is pierced to form diametrically opposite holes 21, a mandrel 22 is located in the tube with a mandrel drift 26, in a transverse mandrel hole, aligned with holes 21. Member 27 is then used to drive the drift 26 outwards through holes 21, successively, to outwardly flange the holes to receive the shaft. The closer is mounted on, covered by, sheet metal members (Figs. 1 and 3). <IMAGE> |
