PURPOSE:To obtain a new compound, excellent in stability with time, good in solubility in oils and useful as an additive for cosmetics. CONSTITUTION:This compound is expressed by formula I (R is 8-18C alkyl- or alkenyl-fatty acid residue), e.g. L-ascorbic acid tetraisopalmitate. The compound expressed by formula I is obtained by reacting ascorbic acid expressed by formula II with an acyl halide expressed by formula III (R1 is alkyl or alkenyl after removing carbonyl group from R; X is halogen) in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating agent (e.g. pyridine) in an aprotic polar solvent (e.g. DMF) at <=50 deg.C. Since cosmetics or foods containing this compound, expressed by formula I and blended therein are extremely stable and capable of continuously manifesting the vitamin C activity for a long period without changing the color and odor, this compound is excellent as an additive. The compound expressed by formula I can readily be obtained in a short time simply by the usual acylating reaction without requiring troublesome pretreating or post- treating steps. |
